Fossils create harmony through organization. They can teach us to be aware of the cycle of life and to embrace change with a feeling of security. They represent time, eternity and evolution - all of the things that we chose to come here to experience in this physical form. Fossils may also be helpful in keeping one grounded, aiding in stability and physical stamina. Fossils have a calming and soothing energy promoting feelings of tranquility, contentment and comfort. Fossils help with manifesting accomplishments in business, communication and in the development of new ideas and strategies. Fossils increase the feelings of self-confidence and success. Fossils help us release old paradigms and create the foundation for change.

Starlight is the light that comes from the stars at night. Starlight as a symbol represents interpretation and clarity. Starlight provides the ability to channel it’s power so that you can support your dreams in life through the radiance of that light. Starlight also represents devotion, empowerment and integrity. There is a magic there, an alignment of beauty that just isn’t from this planet. But within it’s path, starlight brings light and balance to everything it catches.

On this piece the thin traces of starlight illuminate once was. Mirrored silver is traced over the shapes and fossils that represent life lessons and knowledge, in all of its twists and complications that reside beneath the surface. These traces, flashes, irregularities from what was bring radiance and a bonded unity to what is. There is a sense of beauty, seductive charm and charisma that fossils bring to a space, something that starlight effortlessly magnifies and refines within it’s grace.

On the canvas is an abstract beam of light, meant to be radiating out of a prism. The prism that created the colors represents your life. It’s physical form is not visible in the canvas, as it is an important theme to you both to keep focusing on going forward. The colored bars represent all of the different facets of your individual beings that you’ve gained throughout your life, the things you will take with you, as you move forward together as one whole. The black glitter sparkling in the void space brings meaning to how it can be the situations of darkness that truly illuminate the freedom that comes from within those lessons, in the future.

In my experience, only from darkness can the most important illumination and knowledge emerge. The sequences of comparison in the paragraphs above really represent the ways that you both support each other. On a personal note this canvas has been a number of completed paintings, all for you both. Which explains all of the lifetimes you have had together. The first piece was like a storm. It reminded me of a map so that was it’s name “Maps” given the love for travel you both share. But like any storm I couldn’t stop it in time and I ruined it. The remnants of that piece are the texture that make up all of the fossil like texture that the mirrored starlight outlines.

It was so important for me to get this piece perfect, to the point of compulsive insanity. At one point it was at perfect completion after three weeks of layering. Just needed to add a tiny bit of ink, which was a disaster. I ruined it by accident, again. It was immensely painful, feeling like I ripped the wings off of a butterfly that I created. I sobbed so hard I think I lost five pounds while Kevin held me. I felt like I could never look at a blank canvas again. And the next day, threw a bunch of black paint over the whole canvas. I started over.

I am so grateful that I did. Because the work has finally turned out perfectly. It shows the groundedness and sense of quiet charisma. The whimsical proportioned to an equal level of magic and clarity. The love of travel. The surrender. And the courage to start new, regardless of what other people perceive and how impossible it might seem.

This canvas is a miracle. A shape shifter that radiates, against all odds.
