More than 80% of our ocean is unmapped, unobserved, and unexplored. I have always felt it so funny that so many institutions invest the way they do in space as so much of our Oceans are right here, waiting to be discovered yet unseen.

Sarah, you were born profoundly wise beyond your years. It is within that wisdom that throughout this life you will understand and relate to the ocean. From the beauty and special memories of the sunset chasing surface to the curiosity and need to “go deeper” to find out what is within you, you will find such identification with the Ocean throughout your life. The spirit of the Ocean is the most vast on Earth, spanning all human feelings and ways of reaction in a form of physical sight that we as humans can understand.

I did my best to capture even one microcosm of her beauty for you to explore. For you to consider who you are and what you want within this life as you study the painting in these formative years to come. The first part of the title “Blue” - is a representation of communication and speaking the truth. Even when life is deep, and you’re not sure, and you have to search deeper within yourself to make decisions and take action. You have a powerful spirit that will always emulate the truth and know how to communicate it with grace. With this skill, you will be a positive example to others. 

Iris, the second part of her title, is the Greek Goddess of the Rainbows. She is considered a powerful messenger, always speaking the truth. All of the light and happiness you have brought to your parents is represented in the rainbow on this canvas, and what a profound creation they have made together, you. Together, you each make up all of the colors together.

People with a rainbow personality tend to be positive, creative, and joyful. They can easily access their inner child and know how to have true carefree fun. This is the way that you are Sarah, and it is because of all of the safety, joy, and creativity your parents have worked at together to provide for you. 

You are their Ocean. 

You are their whole world. 

Just like a rainbow is seen and the ocean is seen it is very important to your parents that you know that you are seen by them, and understood, and loved. Because this piece of art is such a special gift to you from them, I asked them to give me some examples of some of their favorite and most special things about you. It might not make a ton of sense now, but as the years pass and this painting lives amongst you all, you will grow into a different understanding again and again.
